Facebook Places Pages are for businesses that have a physical location. They have a small difference to other business pages, which is that they use the 'check-in' concept.
Facebook allows customers to 'check-in' at a venue to tell their friends that they are at particular venue! This is a great tool for social media marketing as your customers are spreading the word about your venue through word of mouth!
A places page may exist for your business even if you or someone else from your company didn't create it. This is because when someone checks into a place that doesn't already have a Page, a new Page gets created to represent the location.
Step 1: Log into the Facebook account you wish to manage your venue (most likely your personal) and go to the Places Page you wish to claim. You can find your Places Page by searching in toolbar at the top.
Step 2: Click the cog next to ‘edit’ and it will drop down a menu. Click on ‘Is this your business’
Step 3: Fill out your information including your job title, phone number and company website.
Step 4: They besy way to varify your claim is via email. Make sure your company email (email@example.com) is linked up with the Facebook account you are using as admin. If it’s not connected, just click the blue ‘add your business email address’.
Step 5: Submit! Remember to allow up to one week for Facebook to review your claim request and respond. If your request is accepted, other people won't be able to become an admin of your Page without your permission.
Once you've claimed your Page, you can merge it with duplicate Pages that you may already have set up for your venue. People who like the Pages will become associated with the one Page that has the most likes. To merge, the pages must be about the same venue and have similar names to be allowed to merge. Additionally, make sure the addresses are the same.
Please note, you can only merge the Page with fewer likes into the one with more likes. Follow these 4 steps to merge your Pages.
Step 1: Go to the Page with the most Likes, you keep this one. Go to the admin view of your Business Page click the down arrow next to your name on Facebook and select the Page.
Step 2: From the top of your Page click 'Edit Page' and then select update info.
Step 3: On the left sidebar, click Resources and then click the 'Merge duplicate pages' link. This link will only appear if you are an admin of two Pages with similar names.
Step 4: A dialogue will show Pages you admin that qualify to be merged. Select the Page(s) you wish to merge. If you're merging Pages with a location, they must have the same address information.
Merging Pages combines all your likes and check-ins. Please note, all other content from the Page with fewer likes, such as wall posts and photos, will be permanently deleted, so make sure to save and re-upload. The Page with fewer likes will be removed from Facebook and you will not be able to un-merge it.
